A Fresh Look at Supporting Survivors of IPV (Session H)
(Repeat Session N)
Traditional thought would see police, courts, and social services making important decisions for people exposed to abuse. ‘Agency’ language and the rise of victim voice is challenging this tradition. Relying solely on either the supporting social agents or a victims’ perspective, has extreme drawbacks. This workshop explores the space between ‘failing to act’ and ‘actions that fail’. Led by a survivor who has been on both sides of the spectrum; working as a police officer and escaping a life of IPV, this session has a unique perspective on who victims are, and how they survive.
