Forgotten victims no more: Putting the spotlight on elder abuse (Session C)
Paul Greenwood will draw upon his 22 years of prosecuting serious elder abuse crimes to highlight why elder abuse is now being called the crime of the 21st Century. He will demonstrate how the only effective approach to combatting this insidious and escalating crime is by learning from the successful multi disciplinary approaches used to respond to child abuse, domestic violence and human trafficking. Greenwood will focus on several misconceptions that often hinder investigation and prosecution and will provide case studies to show that it is possible to provide a measure of justice for victims who traditionally have often been overlooked, ignored or simply not believed. He will provide a rallying cry for more community based task forces to tackle this escalating crime and will challenge the audience to action through a mixture of humor and poignant reality.
