OUTSIDE OF THE SHADOWS: LET’S GET PRACTICAL (SESSION Q)
Combining her years of personal experience as a victim of stalking with her years as an advocate and educator, Julie S. Lalonde will facilitate a discussion with participants on the reality of criminal harassment in Canada. In particular, participants will be challenged to unpack why stalking remains largely absent from broader discussions of violence against women. Talking about one’s experience of stalking inevitably makes the problem worse. Therefore, we will not have a #MeToo moment for criminal harassment. Which begs the question: How are we, as advocates, educators and allies, bringing the conversation out of the shadows?
This session will provide space for participants to question their own practices and develop key strategies for integrating awareness of stalking into their existing work.
