Strangulation in Domestic Violence: Building a Community of Practice to Increase Victim Safety (Session W)
Strangulation is an intentional form of physical abuse with serious, sometimes lethal consequences. The criminal justice system alone cannot protect victims of strangulation therefor a collaborative approach to care involving social work, health, and criminal justice professionals is needed. In response to this need the Strangulation Identification Action Committee (SIAC) was formed. SIAC’s goals include: increasing victim safety, increasing offender accountability, promoting community awareness, and fostering collaborations and connections with criminal justice, health, and social work agencies.
