Biography

Betty Jo Barrett (MSSW, PhD) is an Associate Professor and Director of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program at the University of Windsor. For over ten years, she has conducted research on intimate partner violence with a specific focus on survivors’ help seeking and their interactions with sources of support in the aftermath of violence. Her recent research focuses on the intersection of animal abuse and woman abuse as well as the experiences of bystanders to partner violence in LGBTQ communities. She is a former community social worker in the areas of child welfare and family violence.
